Events

The Low Carbon Cities Programme is working with Bristol, Leeds and Manchester to develop city-wide carbon reduction plans.

The following events have been scheduled for all three Core Cities plus Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield. City specific events can be viewed using the city tabs in the left-hand navigation menu.

All Core Cities - Low Carbon Cities Conference

Thursday 22nd May 2008. The ICC, Birmingham

Supporting the development of city-wide carbon reduction strategies.

To celebrate progress made to date within the Low Carbon Cities Programme, a high profile event was held on 22nd May in Birmingham, to share good practice between all eight of the core cities.

Tom Delay, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust, and Fraser Winterbottom, Director of Delivery for the Energy Saving Trust, provided opening thoughts, before each of the three participating cities – Bristol, Leeds and Manchester - updated delegates on their experiences of the Low Carbon Cities Programme.

Seminars held through the day explored:

Accelerating city wide carbon reduction.
State of Play audits and the Low Carbon Cities Programme Toolkit.
City wide project exemplars – mapping opportunities across cities.
Support from the Carbon Trust and the Energy Saving Trust.

Delegates also enjoyed guided tours of the new Combined Heat and Power plant at the Birmingham ICC.
The Low Carbon Cities Conference coincided with the second leg of the ‘Sustainable UK Cities Seminar Series’ – a UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy initiative supported by Shell. This series of events aims to bring together business leaders, local government, and the community to help identify emerging priorities to tackle climate change, and explore the partnership opportunities that will be needed to deliver a low carbon economy.

We were delighted that senior representatives from a wide range of stakeholders from each of the eight core cities, as well as policy makers, influencers and thought leaders from across England, were able to join us for this interactive, lively and informative conference.
